Cape May, New Jersey Activities

Known as America’s oldest seaside resort, Cape May has drawn in thousands of visitors from all over the world since the 1880s to enjoy the Cape May beaches of New Jersey. Offering 2.5 miles of sandy shoreline, Cape May has some of the most pristine beaches, from Poverty Beach to Higbee Beach, and everything in between.

Higbee Beach – as a wildlife management area, Higbee Beach is serene, less crowded, and simply beautiful. The beach is defined by native scrub bushes like bayberry and low pine, which add to area’s natural landscape. While Higbee Beach offers a beautiful shoreline, it is not an ideal place to swim, but is perfect for letting your dog off leash. There are no facilities at this beach.

Sunset Beach – Next to Higbee Beach is Sunset Beach. As the name indicates, Sunset Beach is a great place to watch the sunset in Cape May. The beach offers several park benches, wide open spaces – ideal for flying a kite and don’t forget to snap a picture of the S.S. Atlantus (the concrete ship).

Cape May Point – Working your way around the peninsula from Sunset Beach, visitors will encounter Cape May Point. Made popular by the Cape May Lighthouse and its quaint and quiet atmosphere, this beach is a nice alternative to the more crowded city beaches.

City of Cape May Beaches – There are a variety of beaches to choose from within the city of Cape May. Stretching from S. Broadway to Pittsburgh Ave, the sandy shores of Cape May have beckoned visitors for years with its surf, sand, and shore.

The Cove –The granddaddy of all Cape May Beaches, The Cove is a family-friendly beach where surfing is a popular activity. The laid-back atmosphere, beautiful views, and the traditional flag lowering ceremony make The Cove a favorite amongst visitors and tourists alike.

As you make your way north from The Cove, there are other notable beach spots within the city including Grant Street, Broadway, Windsor – a favorite neighborhood beach, Steger’s Beach, Congress Street, Decatur Street, and ending with Poverty Beach.

Located in east Cape May, minutes from Beach Avenue and Cape May’s beachfront, The Blue Fish Inn makes a great home base for summer exploration. Find your favorite Cape May beach, during your stay at the Blue Fish Inn.
